Jess and Evan's Grounds for Sculpture Wedding

I think the award for sweetest couple of 2012 goes to Jess and Evan. Really one of the kindest couples I've ever worked with. And the way they took such joy in their gifts for each other, and making the day special for each other, was truly inspiring. Additionally, they picked one of the most unique, eclectic, and fascinating locations for a wedding I've ever seen and it was perfect fit for their style and sensibilites.The Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton, New Jersey. If you ever get a chance to visit, don't pass it up. The place is full of visual surprises and amusements like few other parks.

Emily & Bobby's Apawamis Club Wedding

  So when I found out that Bobby and his childhood friends were all comedians my first thought was,  "awesome! This is gonna be a great wedding to shoot!" Then I thought about it a bit and started in a bit of a panic...."This is a roomful of very funny people... and I am in that room.... and I am a wedding photographer... It could really be a long night."

Alas, my fears were assuaged and Emily, Bobby, their families and friends put one one of the most fun, and funny, nights I've had in a while. Seeing the speakers turn the Apawamis Club into a comedy club was something I won't soon forget.

This wedding reinforced for me the way I try to approach weddings. Quite simply, you just have to sit back and let people be who they are. Don't direct too much, let them be themselves.  If you can do that, you will capture them in a way that they will undoubtably love.

Jeanne and Matthew at Brecknock Hall

 

Jeanne and Matthew's wedding at Brecknock Hall out in Long Island wine country on the North Fork was one of the most beautiful, emotion filled weddings I've ever seen. The setting, the people, the event.... all lined up for a day that I'm sure these families will remember, and cherish for the rest of their lives. This was really one of the closer, stronger families I've ever met and worked with, and it was truly an honor to do so. Congratulations to Jeanne and Matthew!

Lauren & Rich at the Emerson Spa, Phoenicia, NY

I've known Rich for about 8 years from my other life as a photojournalist. He's one of the finest writers I've had the pleasure to work with and also one of the guys who just "gets" what I do, helping me to do my job better in the process. Needless to say when he asked me to shoot his wedding I was completely humbled, and excited. When I met his fiancé Lauren over dinner I knew we'd all have a fun day together... and we ended up having a blast.

They picked out the Emerson Spa and Resort in the Catskill Mountains and the area was stunning. I know the area quite well from years of camping trips in the region and couldn't wait to make pictures in those surroundings. Getting the chance to shoot the two of them on the banks of the Esopus River at sunset was all a photographer could ask for, and frankly, with surroundings like that, a monkey could take a good picture! And another note for the books... not much else looks as romantic as barefoot in a creek in a wedding dress. Winning combination!
